INCOTERMS 2020
The Incoterms are the world’s essential rules of international commercial transactions and released by the International Chamber of Commerce (hereinafter referred to as the “ICC”). “Incoterms” is an acronym standing for international commercial terms. The Incoterms rules provide specific guidance to traders participating in the import and export of global trade on a daily basis.
The Incoterms 2020 has been released by the ICC in early September 2019. Trading partners can select the Incoterms 2020 to be applied to their international commercial transactions as of 1 January 2020.
There are small differences issued in the Incoterms 2020 in comparison with the Incoterms 2010 which is popular among merchants for their international commercial transactions:
- • 11 delivery types have been issued in the Incoterms 2020 alike the Incoterms 2010,
- • Delivery under DAT (“Delivered At Terminal”) has been amended in terms of its obligations and has been renamed DPU (“Delivered At Place Unloaded”),
- • Other delivery types have not been amended by the Incoterms 2020 apart from small amendments on their rules about insurance and obligations.
On the other hand, there is no obligation to select the Incoterms 2020; trading partners will be free to select the Incoterms 2010 or indeed any other INCOTERMS’ revision for their commercial agreements. However, they must be sure to specify which INCOTERMS should apply.
