HARMONIZATION AIM OF TURKISH PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION CODE WITH GDPR

The Presidential Decree Numbered 10376 approving the Medium-Term Program (2026–2028), (the “Medium-Term Program”) for the years 2026-2028 prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and the Directorate of Strategy and Budget has been published in the duplicate issue of Official Gazette dated 7 September 2025 and numbered 33010.

The Medium-Term Program provides updated targets for growth, inflation, unemployment, per capita income, and foreign trade. It also sets certain goals in the field of law as part of improving the regulatory framework.

Within this context, the harmonization process of the Code on the Protection of Personal Data No. 6698 (in Turkish, “KVKK”) with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) is aimed to be completed by third quarter of 2026.

Completion of the work within the scope of harmonization of the legislation with the European Union Artificial Intelligence Regulation was also stated among the other targets.
